The right type of rocks for your rock bed depends on a number of factors. What colour are nearby plants and trees? Are you using your rocks as mulch, or are they purely decorative? There’s quite a bit of preparation that needs to be done before you can install a rock bed—you’re not just pouring rocks on the ground. You’ll need to remove any grass and weeds from the area and dig down to create a bed for your rocks. You may also need to add an extra layer of high-quality soil or even an underlayment. Don’t worry, though—our landscaping company does all that work for you!

How often do I need to maintain my rock bed? Not very often at all! Weeds may still grow in your rock bed, so you’ll want to use an herbicide or pull those out by hand. You’ll also want to blow or rake any leaves that end up on your rock bed in the fall; you can also use a rake to move any rocks that have been disturbed by wind (or pedestrians) back in place. All in all, a lot less work than a lawn!

Rock beds don’t prevent weeds from growing, though you may find fewer weeds in your rock beds.
